Holy Baptism is the sacramental rite of full initiation, by water and the Holy Spirit, into membership in the Christian church. Baptism is administered in the context of the Eucharist on a Sunday or other feast day of the year. The following feasts are chosen for Baptism because of the connection each holds to this sacrament. The Great Vigil of Easter, Pentecost, All Saint’s Day and the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. All members of the congregation renew their own Baptismal Covenant and welcome the newly baptized in to the community of faith.

Baptism Instruction
Baptism classes provide a place for people to reflect on the sacrament of Baptism and to come to understand themselves more fully as baptized people. Classes are open to anyone who wishes to understand the sacrament more fully. Parents and godparents of children who are candidates for Baptism are expected to attend these classes. Led by cathedral clergy, these classes are typically held on the three Monday or Tuesday evenings preceding the Sunday of Baptism.
