Youth Mission and Outreach Opportunities

Summer Mission Opportunities - 2008

Trinity’s Youth Ministry strives to live into the promises of our Baptismal Covenant. In faithful obedience to respecting the dignity of every person, we strive to make Christ present to the needy, vulnerable, the less fortunate and even ourselves. We offer varieties of opportunities through which our youth can engage the world in a more meaningful way.

Mission Trips and Outreach
Through the auspices of Homeworks, an organization which renovates the homes of the elderly and those in need, we have participated in One Day Blitzes in the Fall and Spring and have spent two summers renovating houses on John's Island and Wadmalaw Island. Due the overwhelming enthusiasm our young people have exhibited, we are offering two mission trips through HomeWorks this summer. There will a trip to Charleston in June (June 22-28, 2008) which will be led and staffed by Canon Jared Johnson. We will be helping repair houses on John's Island again this summer. Clara Weston, a two time veteran of this mission, will chaperone and assist in staffing this trip. Both opportunities are open to 9th through 12th graders. Pilgrimage
Trinity also offers a summer pilgrimage to the newly confirmed 10th grade class, 11th graders and 12th graders. Since the pilgrimage is entirely developed to serve the newly confirmed, they are given a higher priority than the juniors and seniors. Last year’s pilgrims went to Iquitos, PeruWe are offering a pilgrimage to Quito, Ecuador this year from June 19-17, 2008. Our young people will work with missionaries from Youth World, a mission with connections to the Episcopal Church. Its emphasis is on youth ministry. For more information on Youth World, go to
www.youthworld.org.ec. Chaperones for this trip will be Dean Philip Linder, Kirsten Moorman, Shaw Evans, Melanie Glenn, and Roger Hutchison.  Click here to see a slide presentation of where this trip will take us!

CAMP WILD (Working In Love as Disciples)
Camp Wild is a half-Day mission opportunity for our youth to minister and serve various organizations and agencies in and around midlands. This summer offering is for the rising 6th-8th graders. Some of the social service agencies that we work for are, Salvation Army, St. Lawrence Place, Harvest Hope Food Bank and Still Hopes. Another part of our mission is raising money through our fees to support the Ministry of Canoeing For Kids, and organization which raises money to help disadvantaged children across South CarolinaCarole Rowden and Lucy Barwick are the chairs for Camp WILD 2008.
