Many people work together to prepare for Sunday and weekday worship at Trinity Cathedral. The guilds described here provide invaluable support for the many aspects of worship. If you are interested in participating in one of the guilds, contact the chairman of the guild or Betty Hudgens, Lay Ministries Coordinator, at 771-7300 or via e-mail.
The Acolytes Guild offers young people in grades 7-12 the opportunity to serve as ministers in Cathedral worship. Acolytes lead processions, take responsibility for lighting and extinguishing candles and assist priests and deacons in preparation for communion. There are four guild chapters - each headed by a senior acolyte who is responsible for scheduling and assigning the members of his or her chapter. One of the four chapters serves at either the 9:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Sunday services in the Cathedral so that an acolyte may expect to serve every other week. During the summer, worship schedule teams combine to serve at ordinations or at other special worship services. Contact Deacon Sue von Rautenkranz, 771-7800, for more information. Members of the Altar Guild prepare the altar for Sunday and weekday worship in the Cathedral and Keenan Chapel. In addition to setting up for each service, they are responsible for polishing silver and brass, mending and laundering linens, maintaining supplies of wine, wafers, candles and cleansing materials. Altar Guild members are also responsible for setting up the altar for funerals, weddings, ordinations, and other special services in the Cathedral and Keenan Chapel. Members serve on one of five weekly teams - each responsible for a designated week each month. Julianne Sojourner, chair, supports weekly and other scheduled worship services at the Cathedral. Its volunteers prepare the altars, flowers, communion ware, altar linens, hangings and other service materials. They also assist at weddings, funerals, the and other occasions, as well as support such special diocesan events as confirmations and ordinations.
The Flower Guild is comprised of parish members interested in flower arranging, who may also be members of the Altar Guild. Flower Guild members augment the services of the designated members of each Altar Guild week who regularly arrange flowers for the altar in the Cathedral, Keenan Chapel, and on some occasions the Seibel's Chapel. Flower Guild members may also be called upon to help with festival days in the church calendar and for other special celebrations requiring their talent.
