The Book of Common Prayer defines Holy Matrimony as "a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God." The nature of Christian marriage assumes that engaged couples have a prior relationship with God and with the Christian community. Couples who request the sacrament of Holy Matrimony at Trinity Cathedral are expected to have already begun to build a relationship upon the presence and grace of God in their lives. The very first step toward a wedding at the Cathedral is for a couple to make an appointment with the Trinity priest whom they wish to officiate, or be responsible for, their wedding. At least one of the persons wishing to be married at Trinity must be a member in good standing of the parish. A booklet outlining wedding policies and guidelines is available through the link below or by calling Betty Hudgens in the Cathedral office, 803-771-7300.

Pre-Marriage Workshops
It is a requirement of the Episcopal Church that couples wishing to be married in the church receive pre-marriage instruction and counseling. At Trinity Cathedral a portion of this requirement is fulfilled by participating in one of four workshops led by Cathedral clergy. Workshops are held at the Cathedral and begin on Friday evening and end early Saturday afternoon. A brochure is available by clicking here.
Wedding Dates during the Bicentennial Restoration of the Cathedral
As the work of restoring the Cathedral continues, we have found that the process is more complex than originally anticipated. Consequently, we have concluded that we cannot in good conscience book wedding dates in the Cathedral before September 18, 2010. Until this time both the Keenan Chapel and Averyt Hall will be available for weddings. We have continuing arrangements with several other churches for Trinity members who wish to be married during this time to schedule a wedding at one of those locations. Members who wish to be married during the time of the restoration, whether at Trinity or at another location, should contact the Cathedral priest whom they wish to officiate at their marriage to begin the process of planning for their wedding. The Wedding Policy booklet and information about the Pre-Marriage Workshops are available through links on this page or by contacting Betty Hudgens in the Cathedral office at 803-771-7300. Both the policy booklet and the fees are being reviewed. Revised policies and fees will be published soon.
