Cathedral Singer (baritone)
Hours:
part-timeTrinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, SC has a vacancy for a baritone staff singer, to begin either immediately or at the beginning of the 2025-26 academic year. Trinity’s staff singers, called the Cathedral Singers, contribute to a professional core of sound and provide musical leadership for the volunteer members of the Choir of Adults, Choir of Boys, and Choir of Girls. Our repertoire spans from early plainsong through the twenty-first century, with a special emphasis on the Anglican/Episcopal choral tradition and a commitment to include historically underrepresented composers. There are opportunities for solo work - often with period instruments - in our Bach Vespers series, Handel’s Messiah, and more.
Cathedral Singers must have strong vocal experience, good sight reading ability, and an enjoyment of healthful ensemble singing with control of pitch and vibrato. They must also be dependable, punctual, and communicative regarding their schedules.
Cathedral Singers are paid per call. During the program/academic year, the regular calls are a Thursday evening rehearsal, a Sunday morning service, and a Sunday afternoon service (Choral Evensong,) for an average of three calls per week. There are occasional extra calls, especially around Christmas and Holy Week/Easter. During the summer, there is no Thursday rehearsal, and calls are Sunday mornings only. Cathedral Singers have the opportunity to take extra calls for weddings and funerals. There is flexibility with time off, particularly in lower times of the church year. Contact Director of Music Paul Thomas for more information or to schedule an audition.
