Position Vision

Under the supervision of the Director of Parish Life, the Manager for Kitchen Ministries envisions, plans, executes, evaluates and continually strives to improve the feeding ministries of Trinity Cathedral. In addition to overseeing the operations of the Trinity kitchen, the kitchen manager seeks new and creative ways to engage volunteers, to support Cathedral ministries through food service, and to nourish Cathedral members, guests, and our wider community both in body and in soul.

Duties

The Manger for Kitchen Ministries is responsible for:

  • ensuring that the Trinity kitchen is a joyful place of delicious food and  gracious hospitality
  • preparing and serving food in a safe and hygienic manner
  • establishing, executing, and tracking the kitchen ministries annual budget
  • working with the director of parish life to invite, equip, and empower kitchen volunteers to help accomplish the goals of the ministry
  • communicating, enacting, and, when appropriate, updating the Trinity kitchen policies and procedures in coordination with the kitchen committee, the Daughters of the Holy Cross and sextons
  • coordinating with the facilities manager to execute regular professional maintenance and cleanliness of the kitchen
  • developing practices to ensure faithful stewardship of food resources,  including preparing appropriate amounts, serving proper portions, and properly storing servable excess food for future use, or distribution to local ministry partners
  • communicating regularly with key relationship partners regarding events and schedules
  • coaching, mentoring and training volunteers and kitchen staff  in safety procedures, cleanup procedures, food preparation and storage procedures in compliance with the Trinity kitchen policies and procedures and all S.C. DHEC requirements
  • coordinating, planning, and preparing meals and menus for the Cathedral, Diocesan, and community ministries (e.g. Men of Trinity, Daughters of the Holy Cross, choir, the Diocese of Upper South Carolina)
  • purchasing for the kitchen
  • ensuring adequate inventory and stock levels


Skills and Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with a wide variety of personalities
  • Ability to cook creatively while preparing nutritional meals for groups of varying sizes and requirements
  • Ability to lift, pull or push moderately heavy objects up to 20 pounds, and to spend time standing, stooping or bending in the course of standard work
  • ServSafe certification
  • 5 years of commercial kitchen experience
